Launch: Coffee Shop and Media Hub

Tuesday, March 2, 2010 - 11:46
Cape Town Society for the Blind (CTSB) in partnership with a range of networks and partners under the umbrella of the South African NGO Coalition (SANGOCO) - Western Cape, is launching a Coffee Shop and Media Hub on 12 March 2010 in the Western Cape.

As capacity building and income generation projects, these innovative, pilot ventures will ensure holistic and targeted skills development and training with clear entry-exit strategies for visually impaired people, women and youth - enabling marginalised people in the Western Cape to live quality lives. We believe that only through the creation of lucrative partnerships can we build capacity to achieve a diversified and dynamic society within the Western Cape.

CTSB, as the lead partner, the Network for Disability, the South African Blind Women in Action and the Disability Workshop Development Enterprise under the umbrella of SANGOCO, have pooled resources to enable us to work as a collective and launch these two exciting projects - by drawing together partners we spread the net wider to ensure access to practical relevant training, mentorship and placement.

In line with the partners’ fundamental values which underpin our shared vision of capacity building and quality service provision, these two projects enable us to continue being responsive to the needs and welfare of our sector and the people of the Western Cape.

The cementing of these partnerships is a direct outcome of the Youth Summit held in 2009 which recognised the need for interventions which ‘unblock skills and create jobs’. The launch provides us with a perfect platform to take the next steps to ensure we truly serve our various constituencies.
