Quote of the week
"We have been blessed that under the collective leadership of the ANC we can proudly proclaim that ‘South Africa belongs to all who live in it, black and white’. We were mightily, and unexpectedly, blessed when the old, oppressive, undemocratic order succumbed and bowed to the inevitable. And then finally, we were truly blessed by the far-sighted wisdom of our collective leadership – with Madiba at the helm – that took us into a democratic future. For all of this and much more, we are deeply grateful."
- Ahmed Kathrada

Ahmed Kathrada, Pravin Gordhan, Opportunities…
This week, South Africa bids farewell to an honourable man, a man simply known to many as Uncle Kathy.
As tributes poured in from all sectors of society, Ahmed Kathrada’s passing reverberated deeply into South Africa’s moral conscience. The reality of his passing has lifted the proverbial veil for many South Africans and has left us with an uncomfortable uncertainty as to the future of this beautiful country, we call home.
In a statement by the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Neeshan Balton stated, "This is great loss to the ANC, the broader liberation movement and South Africa as a whole. Internationally, he was staunch in his support for the Palestinian struggle. 'Kathy' was an inspiration to millions in different parts of the world,"
Ryland Fisher, a seasoned media professional, writes in the article Ahmed Kathrada: A life built on eradicating racism and inequality about Kathrada’s role and influence in the struggle for democracy in South Africa.
Faced with increasing levels of corruption, unabated practices of nepotism, South Africans have been left to wonder whether Uncle Kathy’s legacy will continue with this current political dispensation.

After been recalled from an investor roadshow in London by South Africa’s Number 1 citizen, President Jacob Zuma, Pravin Gordhan landed to the #GordhanGupta court case.
Gordhan approached the court, seeking a declaratory judgment endorsing that he cannot intervene in the dispute between Gupta-owned Oakbay Investments and South Africa’s major banks.
Described as a brave man with nerves of steel, a visibly emotional Pravin Gordhan was further singled out by the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation CEO Neeshan Balton.
“Irrespective of whether you are a minister in days or weeks to come. You remain true to the values and principles that Ahmed Kathrada would be proud of,” Balton said.
Rumours have been making the rounds that a cabinet reshuffle will see Gordhan removed as Finance Minister but with half of the ANC top brass rejecting Zuma’s plan to appoint Brain Molefe as Gordhan’s replacement, South Africans are waiting with bated breath for Number 1’s next move.
