Information, NPO Board, Elections…
Access to information and not censorship, plays a critical role in advancing any democracy. Last week, we published an article by Gabrielle Ritchie, a director at The Change Room, in which she discussed the challenges faced by farm workers in the wine industry in the Western Cape and the philanthropic contribution that wine farmers are making to empower their employees.
This week, Ritchie focuses on some of the questions that people should answer before they decide to accept nomination to serve on the board of a nonprofit organisation. She if of the view that board members and staff should know the type of document of formation/founding document that the organisation has and what it is called, the name of your organisation’s flagship project or core programme, the term of office for board members, among others.

On 3 August 2016, South Africans will be exercising their democratic right to vote in the upcoming 2016 Municipal Elections. According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), voters will only be allowed to vote in the voting districts where they have been registered. Voters are encouraged to contact the IEC with any elections-related queries on 0800 11 8000, Mondays to Fridays, from 7h00 to 21h00.
