New on the Home Page: www.sangonet.org.za

Development consultant, Frank Julie, offers us a new article this week, which outlines the 23 sins of non-profit management. Amongst them, read about poor objective planning, reactive approaches to funding gaps and inconsistency between organisational image and identity. To read his article, please click here.

Our second article this week follows up on an earlier call to lobby for changes to the Lotteries Act. This article arrives in the wake of the month long suspension of the National Lottery. However, there is still a huge amount of grant funding that needs be distributed to NGOs and Ricardo Wyngaard of the Non-Profit Consortium as well as Rajesh Latchman of the National Welfare Social Services and Development Forum argue that civil society must come together in a unified movement with a legitimate mandate to propose changes to the grant making arm of the National Lottery. To read their article which highlights inconsistencies between the regulation and administration of this funding agency, please click here.

Finally, I call your attention to SANGONeT's 3rd Annual ICT's for Civil Society Conference which will be taking place from 17-18 July 2007. To visit the conference website, please click here.

How can a society that exists
               on instant mashed potatoes,
                   packaged cake mixes,
         frozen dinners, and instant cameras
               teach patience to its young?
