Zimbabwe to Halt Seizure of Some Farms

Zimbabwe announces an end to the seizure of foreign-owned farms protected under the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement

Zimbabwe’s Lands, Land Reforms and Resettlement Minister, Herbert Murerwa, has announced an end to the seizure of foreign-owned farms protected under the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement.

Murerwa said such seizures had been stopped with immediate effect to prevent the state’s liabilities from increasing.

"Although, under Zimbabwean law, government can legally acquire such farms, in view of the ongoing litigation in the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the government has taken the decision not to settle persons on farms covered by the agreement for now," he explains.
