Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 10:20
SABCnews, 6 April 2004 and BuaNews Online, 7 April 2004
The National Coalition of Social Services (NACOSS) has appealed to government to increase its funding to welfare organisations. This according to BuaNews and SABCnews. NACOSS, a coalition representing 3 000 NGOs, only receives 30% of its funds from government, while it provides social services to more than 11 million South Africans. NACOSS says the lack of funding impacts negatively on its service delivery.
The Minister of Social Development, Zola Skweyiya, dismissed the NACOSS claims, but stressed that government has plans in place to improve capacity and funding for NGOs to enable them to deliver more and better social services.
