US$50m Lost to Software Piracy in 2009 – Report

Software piracy cost technology companies more than US$50 billion around the world last year, with Asia accounting for the largest share of losses, according to an industry report.
Global losses due to software piracy reached US$51.4-billion in 2009, with $16,5-billion of this in the Asia-Pacific region.
The report found that despite some successes in the fight to protect intellectual property rights, 43 percent of software used in computers worldwide in 2009 was pirated, compared with 41 percent the year before.
