South Africa is opposing the United States’ plan to cut at least US$569 million globally from 2013 to President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief’s (PEPFAR) funding.
Deputy President, Kgalema Motlanthe, joined activists and celebrities to urge the US government not to cut funds.
In the same vein, singer and philanthropist, Sir Elton John, has been quoted as saying that, “We have this disease by the scruff of the neck. I beg the senate to maintain its funding over the AIDS epidemic.”
