Soyinka Condemns Rising Election Violence
Tuesday, March 29, 2011 - 11:54
Nigerian Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has condemned the spate of killing in the ongoing political campaign rallies of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties in that country.
Soyinka has also urged Nigerian electorate to reject a directive of the country’s inspector of police, that citizens should not use cellphones and cameras to record and monitor voting processes.
Soyinka also urged Nigerians to disregard politicians and political parties involved in killing, asking rhetorically that, “what is the essence of killing ourselves in order to serve ourselves?”
