SADC Raps Zimbabwe Over Polls
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has put its foot down on Zimbabwe and declares that it will not tolerate rushed elections.
SADC also rejects calls by Zanu-PF hardliners that President Jacob Zuma to step down as a mediator in the inter-party talks.
Speaking from Gaborone SADC executive secretary, Tomaz Salamao, has described the call for early polls by President Robert Mugabe and Zanu-PF as just ‘political grandstanding’.
He was speaking ahead of the SADC heads of state summit from 17-18 August 2011 where Zimbabwe is expected to feature prominently.
