SABC to Drop Complaint Against AZAPO

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has announced that it will withdraw its complaint with the police against Azanian People’s Organisation (AZAPO). political party

SABC spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, points out that, “The corporation has decided to rather engage with AZAPO’s leadership to ensure that a similar incident does not happen in the future.”

Kganyago says the SABC will continue to be fair and balanced in its coverage of the elections, guided by its internal election pledge and the rules laid down by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) and the Independent Electoral Commission.

The complaint followed the AZAPO’s supporter’s disruption of SABC News’ election debate, broadcast live on 22nd February 2009 on SABC 2.
