Project Masiluleke to Use Mobile Phones to Disseminate Health Messages
Wednesday, October 29, 2008 - 11:30
The Project Masiluleke has launched a large scale project aimed at sending free one million health messages to South Africans by mobile phones starting from 1 December 2008.
This comes after the pilot project showed that the messages led to dramatic increase in calls to counsellors at the National AIDS helpline in Johannesburg.
Through this initiative, Project Masiluleke will be able to send text messages also in the local languages to encourage hundreds of thousands of people to go for an HIV test in the first year. In addition, the system will also eventually be used to provide information about tuberculosis.
