Oxfam Speaks Out on the Congo Crisis
Tuesday, November 18, 2008 - 16:03
Oxfam GB Nigeria has raised alarm over increasing cases of forced labour, rape and widespread brutality in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a press statement, Oxfam's media coordinator, Osaro Odemwingie, points out that armed men from all sides prey upon those who have sought sanctuary from the fighting in North Kivu.
The organisation has also called on the United Nations’ special envoy and former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo, to unify peace efforts and find a sustainable solution to the protracted conflict that about 5.4 million have lived in for the last decade.
