Thursday, November 20, 2008 - 10:51
The Oppenheimer Memorial Trust (OMT) has donated presents in the form of cheques of up to R1 million to 25 NGOs, universities to community education and feeding schemes.
The event, at which R20 million was distributed among the organisations, celebrated the OMT’s 50th year, and the centenary of the birth of mining magnate Harry Oppenheimer.
OMT manager, Clare Digby, points out that Oppenheimer established the OMT in 1958 in memory of his father, Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, and the trust had spent in the region of R25-30 million a year since 2002.
