Nkwinti Apologises for Slow Land Redistribution
Monday, May 9, 2011 - 12:12
The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform believes the government failed to manage land restitution in the past decade, causing strain, pain and frustration to would-be beneficiaries.
Rural Development and Land Reform Minister, Gugile Nkwinti, apologised on behalf of government, saying it had been 10 to 16 years of waiting for the country.
Addressing the National Restitution Consultative Conference at the St George Hotel in Pretoria last week, Nkwinti, explained that as a result of slow land redistribution, some people who were expected to have benefited had even passed on, adding that this complicated the process even further.
