Two NGOs have filed a constitutional petition in the Tanzanian High Court over the killings of people with albinism
Two NGOs have filed a constitutional petition in the Tanzanian High Court challenging that country’s attorney-general and three government ministries over the killings of people with albinism.

The Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) and Albino Society of Tanzania (TAS) say in their petition the attorney-general's office and ministries have violated the Constitution by not effectively dealing with the gross violations of the rights of people with albinism.

The two NGOs blame the country for failing in their duties to protect albinos who are being targeted for killings across the country by suspected superstitious fortune seekers. The petition comes after reports that at least 45 albinos have been killed in the past two years in the murders linked to witchcraft.
