NGOs Closing Down Due to Lack of Funding

The ECNGOC warns that many NGOs are on the brink of collapse due to lack of funding

The Eastern Cape NGO Coalition (ECNGOC) has warned that many NGOs are on the brink of collapse due to lack of funding.

The ECNGOC says it has already lost many activists and leaders to government and business, while many of its members struggle to remunerate their staff.

The coalition’s provincial chairperson, David Claassen, points out that, “There is a looming crisis in the civil society sector in the province and South Africa in general, and if nothing is done urgently, we might see key organisations in the sector suffer catastrophic consequences in the next year if not earlier, this is already happening.”
