Tuesday, February 3, 2009 - 15:42
Oxfam GB, an international NGO working to end poverty and suffering, says that unending negative social-cultural practices also contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS in Rwanda.
The organisation’s programme coordinator Irene Kaindi, points out that some Rwandans still hold on to outdated traditional beliefs, including for examle that a woman belongs to the entire family.
Speaking at a one-day training seminar in Nyandungu, Kaindi said: "We live in an era of this incurable disease. People must be careful." She warned that groups sensitising Rwandans on the dangers of HIV/AIDS are not open enough.
