The NCOP plans to embark on massive public hearings on the Secrecy Bill

The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) is planning to embark on massive public consultations on the Protection of State Information Bill (Secrecy Bill) in all South Africa’s nine provinces.

The Ad Hoc Committee chairperson, Raseriti Tau, points out that they will ensure that they visit communities and fully brief them about the Bill, before the committee conducts hearings.

Tau says that all organisations will be allowed to present their submissions.

Last year, NGOs and media houses took to the streets to decry the Bill, which the National Assembly adopted by 229 to 107 votes, and two abstentions, by the 400-member chamber.
