Motshekga to Oppose Court Action
Thursday, April 19, 2012 - 12:14
Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, has filed a notice to oppose a court bid concerning minimum norms and standards for school infrastructure.
This was confirmed by the lobby group, Equal Education (EE), which is seeking an order to force the minister to promulgate the standards.
In a press statement, EE states that the minister was supposed to have done so by 11 March 2012.
EE further says that it is also asking for an order to provide emergency relief for two Eastern Cape schools. The schools do not have adequate infrastructure and have to hold classes in mud classrooms or corrugated iron shacks.
