Mobile Operators to Face Collusion Probe
Friday, October 16, 2009 - 14:02
South Africa’s mobile phone firms are facing another battle with regulators after the Competition Commission said it will investigate possible collusion over prices in the industry.
Competition Commission manager of strategy and stakeholder relations, Nandi Mokoena, points out that, “We’ve got three cases that we are investigating (in the mobile phone industry), but they deal with the same issue.”
Mokoena, who says that mobile operators, Vodacom, MTN and Cell C have not been notified about the probe, adds that, “The allegations are that cellular phone companies have agreed on the rates they charge.”
