KZN Clinics Run Out of ARVs
Friday, June 19, 2009 - 10:47
State hospitals and clinics in KwaZulu-Natal province have run out of anti-retroviral drugs (ARVs).
This shocking report from the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) also indicates that five people in the Umgungundlovu district who were waiting to get on to government’s ARV programme, have now died.
TAC spokesperson, Richard Shandu, says, “They [the deceased] have been waiting to receive their medication for five months.” Shandu argues that TAC fieldworkers have indicated there are huge problems with the supply, distribution and availability of the medication.
