Government awards R6mn to the Medical Research Council

The Witness reports that government has awarded R6mn to the Medical Research Council (MRC) for research and development of traditional medicines as part of the national Department of Health's comprehensive plan for the management, care and treatment of HIV and Aids.
The announcement was made by the Health Minister, Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, at a public event over the week-end attended by representatives from business, labour, hostels, as well as traditional leaders, healers and dignitaries concerned about the problems of rape and HIV/Aids.
