Foreigners Still Feel Unsafe - CORMSA
Monday, May 11, 2009 - 10:56
A report by the Consortium for Refugees and Migrants in South Africa (CORMSA) says that foreigners are still insecure after the 2008 xenophobic attacks in Alexandra.
The report points out that the accountability of those responsible for public violence remains minimal, while too few perpetrators of last year’s violence have been prosecuted.
It concludes that little has been done to address the root causes of the violence and as a result, threats of violence against foreigners remain common in some communities. CORMSA argues that no government department takes responsibility to consistently address such conflict.
