Economic Crisis Detracts From Rights Abuses
Tuesday, June 2, 2009 - 12:28

AI secretary-general, Irene Khan, says, "rising poverty and desperate economic and social conditions could lead to political instability and mass violence".
Khan states that as governments struggle to resuscitate their economies, human rights are being relegated to the back seat. "We are sitting on a powder keg of inequality, injustice and insecurity, and it is about to explode," she wrote in the report 'The state of the world's human rights'.
