Campaign to Encourage Youth to Vote

Zimbabwean NGOs launch a campaign to encourage young to vote in next year’s election

In Zimbabwe, a coalition of youth organisations has launched the ‘First Time Voters Campaign’ or ‘X1G’, a campaign aimed at encouraging young people to participate in the country’s elections.

The organisations say the ‘X1G’ will be a deciding factor in Zimbabwe’s next polls, expected by June 2013.

Head of the National Youth Development Trust, Liberty Bhebhe, one of the eight organisations behind the X1G campaign, says X1G, which is about fighting voter apathy, is targeting at least one million youths to register as voters.
