Human rights organisation, SECTION27, has called on provincial education departments to help them with rape cases between teachers and learners.
SECTION27 attorney, Nikkie Steyn, says they have been struggling to get some provincial departments on board to help with these cases, adding that in some instances learners stay away from school because they fear being in contact with teachers who raped them.
Steyn says while today's Stop Rape Initiative is a good idea, there is a need for a more sustainable campaign. In addition, she says at times they have had difficulties with some provincial education departments.
