Aid Cuts Will Hit Africa Hard – World Bank
Tuesday, July 28, 2009 - 16:00
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has warned that many African countries will be hard hit this year if aid flows slow down as a result of the global financial crisis.
In an economic overview for this year, the bank says growth on the continent is likely to slow to just over two percent this year, after seven years of a sustained pace of expansion at five percent.
Frederica Marzo, of the development economist at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, argues that falling revenue will make it more difficult for governments to take steps to relieve poverty.
