Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I register on NGO Pulse portal?

• On the NGO Pulse homepage, click “Register” in the right hand corner of the page (below the masthead)
• Create a new account by completing the fields required. (We need your email address to verify your contact information).
• Once you complete the form, you will see the text "Thank you for applying for an account. Your account is currently pending approval by the site administrator. In the meantime, your password and further instructions have been sent to your e-mail address" at the top of the home page.
• You will immediately receive an email (to the address you provided) allocating you a password which you can use to login to the site.
• Within in an hour you will receive an email indicating that you have been successfully registered as an NGO Pulse user outlining what rights you have - which include uploading vacancies.
• You can then login using your username and password.
• Registering on the NGO Pulse portal is free.

2. What will I be able to do once I have registered?

Upon registration, you will be able to login using your username and password. Your registration makes you an NGO Pulse user. As an NGO Pulse user, once logged in, you are able to:
• Add an opportunity (e.g. vacancies, awards, request for proposals)
• Add an event (e.g. training, workshops, seminars and other events)
• Add a blog
• Add a press release (e.g. NGO Media Releases)
• Add a comment

3. How do I add a vacancy to the portal?

Once you have logged in to the NGO Pulse portal using your username and password, you can add content using the left hand menu which will appear on your user page. You will need to select the “Opportunities" option and then select "Employment Opportunity" in the add content form. Complete the form by adding text for the advertisement and provide the deadline for the vacancy. There will be a delay in it being published, as the administrator will do a final format check.

4. How do I add an event to the portal?

Once you have logged in to the NGO Pulse portal using your username and password, you can add content using the left hand menu which will appear on your user page. You will need to select the "Events" option. Complete the form by adding text and select the start and end date of the event. The advertisement will not display on the portal immediately, as the administrator will do a final format check.

5. How do I add a blog?

Once you have logged in to the NGO Pulse portal using your username and password, you can add content using the left hand menu which will appear on your user page. You will need to select the "Blog post" option. Complete the form by adding text for your blog. The advertisement will not display on the portal immediately, as the administrator will do a final format check.

6. How do I add a comment?

To add your comment to, scroll down to the bottom of an article and click on “Add new comment.” Complete the form by adding text. The advertisement will not display on the portal immediately, as the administrator will do a final format check.

7. How do I add a press release?

Once you have logged in to the NGO Pulse portal using your username and password, you can add content using the left hand menu which will appear on your user page. You will need to select the "Press Release.” Complete the form by adding text. The advertisement will not display on the portal immediately, as the administrator will do a final format check.

8. What is the NGO Pulse newsletter?

The NGO Pulse e-newsletter is sent out every week to more than 20 000 development practitioners and consultants with vested interest in South Africa's civil society. The newsletter highlights articles, research, papers and newsflashes that appear on the NGO Pulse portal.

9. How do I subscribe for the NGO Pulse newsletter?

To subscribe for the NGO Pulse newsletter, send an email request to ngopulse@sangonet.org.za with the subject "subscribe me". If you have the time to elaborate in just a line or two, we are keen to find out about your professional and development interests.

10. How do I unsubscribe the NGO Pulse Newletter?

To unsubscribe from receiving the NGO Pulse newsletter, send an email request to ngopulse@sangonet.org.za with the subject "unsubscribe me," along with your email address. Subscribing for the NGO Pulse newsletter is free of charge.

11. What is SN Announce?

SN-Announce is an email advertising service with a readership of more than 10 000 people. It is a communication and marketing tool for the South African development sector.
For Subscribers: SN Announce allows NGOs, other development practitioners and interested parties to receive targeted news and information via email. Traditionally, job vacancies have been the most popular announcements. Subscription to the service is free.
For Advertisers: SN Announce still remains one of the most cost-effective and efficient ways to reach non-profit organisations, development practitioners, academics, researchers, unions, grantmakers, and others working in the development sector. SANGONeT has provided this service reliably for more than six years and established the brand within development circles.

12. How do I subscribe for SN Announce?

All SANGONeT clients are automatically subscribed to the messages that come through SN Announce. If you are not a SANGONeT client and would like to receive these announcements, please send an email message to sn-announce@sangonet.org.za, with the words "Subscribe to SN-Announce" in the subject line. Subscription to this service is free!

13. How do I advertise on SN Announce?

You can email your announcement to sn-announce@sangonet.org.za and we will distribute the message to all subscribers. Please include your billing details at the top of the message.

14. What does it cost to post an announcement?

Non-profit organisations can post an announcement for R650 (excl. VAT) and for-profit organisations R850 (excl. VAT). You can repeat an announcement for R250 (excl. VAT) per repeat.

15. What are the guidelines for posting announcements?

• When sending your announcement, please only send Word documents of no more than two pages.
• If the announcement is in an email, please provide a short, but clearly descriptive heading/subject line. The announcement must be contained in the body of the email. In this case DO NOT send attachments.
• Please provide the date of the event or deadline for applications, a contact person, a contact email address and telephone number.
• Your email application must be set to send 'plain text' messages and NOT HTML messages.
• Please include your billing details at the top of the message.
• Please remember that announcements must be forwarded to: sn-announce@sangonet.org.za
• Announcements received before 2pm will be sent out on the same day.
• Submissions made after 2pm will be carried over to the following working day.
