Advice on starting an NPO.

Advice on starting an NPO.

Hi I woke up this morning in Johannesburg among all the hustle, bustle and rain. On my way to work I was confronted with a woman and her baby begging at a robot for money. Upon closer inspection, she informed me that she has no home, money or food. In an attempt to help I put her in my car and got her breakfast. But thats not going to keep her full for long... I want to make a difference in our country, to the people of our country. I'd like to start a non profit organisation but I have no idea were to start. Can anyone offer me advice?

U know, i have had such instances when i met poor people who would take my heart away But, i have learnt something through talking to a social worker frend of mine(he passd on last week) that these people are not supposed to be on the streets given the existance of SASSA and social Development Agencies. Next time u meet this woman with children, if she agrees to come in ur car, make arrangements with Social Workers from around there and they will know what to do with her. In our country we have Social grants and a provision for food parcels to curb such scenes on our streets. I know in Durban they have banned them and arrest them when they meet them on the streets. I have realised since reading about them that they have now flocked to Jozi and other parts of Gauteng. What amazes me about most of those I saw is that, they have the same deficiency i.e. they all look at though they are burnt in thier faces and have some1 holding them asking for money on robots. Just be careful when dealing with such people really. Call the Social workers in ur area and ask them to follow them up. There is nothing wrong in caring but the community we live in is no more safe. I hope u feel better and re think the idea of starting an NPO.
