Youth Summit: Unblocking Skills and Creating Employment

Tuesday, June 16, 2009 - 09:36

Poverty remains one of the biggest challenges that we face and employment creation has always been at the epicentre of poverty reduction in South Africa. To build on the voices and activities of youth day over the last 30 years, the South African National NGO Coalition Western Cape, Congress of South African Trade Unions, and the South African Council of Churches, in collaboration in collaboration with the MERSETA, the TETA and a range of other stakeholders, are hosting a Youth Summit on the theme ‘Unblocking Skills and Creating Employment’ from 24-26 June 2009 in Cape Town.

This summit aims to bring together all the role-players across government, business, labour and civil society to provide an opportunity to interact and share ideas on how best the various partners can approach and respond to the challenges facing our youth. The programme offers the opportunity to look at specific interventions to broaden access, develop the interest of marginalised people in scarce skills areas, and ensure access to skills and careers.

All representatives from  government, business, provincially based private and public education and training sector providers, donors, community based and non-governmental organisations, local youth representatives from urban and rural, big and small organisations involved in education, training, skills development and employment creation in the province are encouraged to participate, learn from others, share experiences and access resources and network.
