USBAH: Mainstreaming of HIV/AIDS into Academic Development, Research and Community Engagement

The Unit for Social Behaviour Studies in HIV/AIDS and Health (USBAH) at the University of South Africa is conducting a short course on Mainstreaming of HIV/AIDS into Academic Development, Research and Community Engagement in Pretoria in 2010.

Why is HIV and AIDS such a priority to be addressed by all educators/lecturers, learners and trainers throughout the education and training sector? What can you as an educator/lecturer and/or trainer do to provide the necessary capacity of society to respond to the impact of the AIDS epidemic on sustainable development? Schools, Training Units and Universities need to take up their leadership roles in providing the necessary knowledge and skills on a personal and professional level to effectively respond to the impact of the AIDS epidemic at workplaces, communities and society. Are we ready for this very important task? This is a short course for all of us as educators/lecturers and trainers who provide this vital services to unite our efforts and strengthen each other. • African understanding of the AIDS pandemic - challenges and trends
• Understanding the role of education and training to respond to the AIDS epidemic in South Africa within SAQA, HEQF and Outcomes-Based Education
• Planning a mainstreaming strategy from your education and/or training focus
• Mobilise an integrated education and multi-sector response through collaborations and partnerships
• Develop a portfolio of evidence on a selected mainstreaming strategy
• Understand the need for the education and training sector to respond to the AIDS epidemic
• Mainstream HIV and AIDS into strategic areas of education and training
• Provide a portfolio of evidence on mainstreaming
• Collaborate with other education and training institutions
