SAALA/LSSA Conference

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 - 13:32
The South African Applied Linguistics Association (SAALA), in conjunction with the Linguistics Society of Southern Africa, is hosting the SAALA/LSSA Conference the theme of ‘Language and Identity: Innovation and Reflection’, from 28-30 September 2009 in Cape Town.

The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for the exchange of research findings and experience in language and communication teaching and language and linguistics research, with special emphasis on innovative and reflective educational and research practices. The conference papers will celebrate the diversity of South African languages and language practices, and the ways in which contextual occasions construct language identities, choices, usages and educational practices across a wide range of multilingual settings, from small cultures such as those that emerge in classrooms or working groups, to broad cross-cultural comparisons and cross-disciplinary differences.

The conference will serve as a meeting place for national and international language and language teaching professionals and scholars to exchange ideas and practices and disseminate their research on issues and concerns in language in use and in education. Featuring thought-provoking keynote speakers, papers, posters, roundtable and workshop sessions, as well as excellent book exhibits, the joint SAALA/LSSA conference promises plenty of opportunities for developing and fostering scholarly networks.
