Masters Programme on Local Government 2009

The Community Law Centre is a highly competitive research and training programme on local government and decentralisation in South Africa and the rest of Africa. The programme aims to produce highly trained master’s graduates in practice-based master’s programme on local government and decentralisation.

Full time programme

Students will follow a 10-month long programme, comprising of:

  • Three taught modules (Law of Intergovernmental Relations, Local Government Law and Good Governance)
  • An Internship; and
  • A thesis

Teaching will take place in two blocks of six weeks in which intensive teaching and research towards assignments and exams will be required. 

Part time programme

Part-time students do the programme over a period of two years and replace the internship for a module on socio-economic rights.

A limited number of bursaries are available for full-time students.
