Idasa is an independent public interest organisation committed to building sustainable democratic societies in collaboration with African and global partners.
Idasa is conducting the Economic Policy Literacy for civil society organisations (CSOs) from 17-21 September 2012 in Pretoria.
The aim of the training course is to build and enhance the capacities of CSOs to understand economic processes within government and to be able to effectively engage in government’s economic policy development, implementation and evaluation. The course also aims to foster a collaborative future partnership among South African CSOs to mainstream and institutionalise economic literacy in the sector and to ensure that CSOs can collaborate and partner with each other to address and challenge the South African government on its economic policy making processes and overall service delivery to citizens.
The course content will cover the following topics:
- Democracy engagement and advocacy;
- Workings of the economy;
- Political economy of South Africa;
- Economic policy frameworks and institutions;
- Role of budget in government planning;
