Gender Catalyst for Change

The Institute for Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Pretoria is hosting a three-day course on Gender Catalyst for Change.

The objectives of the Workshop are:

  • To provide programme and project staff with the necessary conceptual, theoretical and contextual frameworks for enhanced understanding of gender, gender policy, gender mainstreaming and the state's obligations in terms of international conventions;
  • To highlight key gender issues which contribute to the pervasive gender-based    discrimination and violence in Africa;
  • To introduce participants to a range of methodologies, tools and instruments to identify key gender issues, to integrate a gender perspective in the project management cycle and to monitor and evaluate intervention and programmes to promote and protect gender equality.

The course content includes:

  • “Pictures of gender” including stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination and abuse
  • Key issues for change including policy and legal compliance, gender in organisations and women in decision-making
  • Methodologies for change including gender research, gender budgeting, gender auditing and gender in the project cycle
  • Toolkit for change including monitoring and evaluation and quality control

Accreditation: This programme is provided by an accredited higher education provider. Up to 70 percent of the Skills Development levy paid is claimable at the relevant SETA. Recommended level 5.
