Engendered Nature of Xenophobia in South Africa

Monday, May 25, 2009 - 12:58
The Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) is launching a report entitled the Engendered Natured of Xenophobia in South Africa on 29 May 2009 in Johannesburg.

The Gendered Nature of Xenophobia in South Africa explores the double jeopardy of being female and foreign in South Africa. This research assesses the particular ways in which xenophobia in South Africa plays out along gendered lines: in so doing, the research illustrates the subtle and insidious ways in which migrant and refugee women in South Africa have been, and continue to be, the victims of xenophobia on a daily basis. The research offers recommendations, from community interventions to public service to legislation, for improving the lives of migrant and refugee women in South Africa.
