EISA: Democracy Seminar: Whither Opposition Politics?
EISA: Democracy Seminar: Whither Opposition Politics?
EISA, a NGO whose mission is to promote credible democratic elections and democratic governance in Africa, is hosting a seminar entitled Democracy Seminar: Wither Opposition Politics on 8 April 2009.
With the elections literally days away, join us as we interrogate what politics holds in store for the 2009 elections and beyond. We have very deliberately framed our topic in such a way that it encompasses a wider remit, rather than simply focusing on what are deemed to be opposition political parties.
While the seminar will focus on opposition parties and their support in the 2009 election, we aim to consider other forms of political opposition too, and will wish to consider the principled modes and forms in which political opposition is expressed and articulated. Whilst we will no doubt also aim to consider what challenges remain for opposition political parties post the 2009 elections, we will at the same time aim to discuss what the prospects for opposing and challenging post election policy and governance trajectories may be.
Time: 10h00 - 13h00
RSVP: Ms Nkgakong Mokonyane, tel: 011 482 5495, email: nkgakong@eisa.org.za
