Annual Helen Kanzira Lecture
The Centre for Human Rights (CHR) is both an academic department and a NGO and works towards human rights education in Africa, a greater awareness of human rights, the wide dissemination of publications on human rights in Africa, and the improvement of the rights of women, people living with HIV, indigenous peoples, sexual minorities and other disadvantaged or marginalised persons or groups across the continent.
The CHR is hosting the Annual Helen Kanzira Lecture under the theme ‘Valuing Women as Autonomous Beings: Women's Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights’, on 15 May 2012 in Pretoria.
The late Helen Kanzira was an alumna of the pioneer class of the LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa. She passed away in October 2007 due to complications arising from giving birth to a baby girl.
