The 12-hour night vigil marks the conclusion of a year dedicated to celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu

Robben Island Museum (RIM)

The 12-hour night vigil marks the conclusion of a year dedicated to celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu.

The 05th of December is especially significant as it marks the anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s death and Robert Sobukwe’s birth. Various faith-based organisations will participate in a pilgrimage of silent reflection to the maximum security prison where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years of his imprisonment and Sobukwe House where the Pan Africanist was held in isolation, managing to earn a degree in Economics from the University of London.

The programme also includes talks by special guests, music, hymns, dance and poetry. Attendees will spend time in interfaith prayers, while sharing food and stories as they reflect and honour the sacrifices of liberation leaders who endured one of the harshest prisons in the world.

To reserve your seat, please RSVP by Monday, 26 November 2018 to Thabo@reputationmatters.co.za or MorongoaR@robben-island.org.za
