Africa Centre for the Green Economy
Green Economy Coalition’s (GEC) Global Meeting for 2018
The GEC Global Meeting 2018 will focus on ‘Giving everyone a stake in the green economy’. Africa Centre for the Green Economy knows that the green economic transition is necessary, urgent, and already underway. But organisation needs to ensure that the new green economy improves the lives of ordinary people everywhere and our meeting will focus on how can we can make the economies of the future equitable, inclusive, and people focused.
Date: 05 to 06 September 2018
Venue: The Durban ICC Exhibition Centre, 11 Walnut Road
This year we also hold our meeting back to back with the UN PAGE Minsterial meeting, on 3rd 4th September, Durban, South Africa. The GEC has been granted a number of guest list reservations, allowing friends of the GEC to join us both for the PAGE Ministerial and our Green Economy meeting immediately following. But places are limited and sure to go quickly so if you’re interested in attending both.
This year marks a milestone in our evolution as a network. With seven country programmes now up and running around the world, our partner organisations will be sharing their stories from the frontlines of the green economic transition: evidence of real and positive improvements, with the potential to achieve scale across nations, and change lives.
Cohosted with Trade and Industrial Policy Strategies (TIPS), the GEC will be taking stock of the global transition and planning our next steps together as the largest civil society movement for fair, green economies.
The conference will be showing activities from a four years’ collaborative project, between the GEC secretariat and seven national hubs on a range of issues, including the role of SMME’s in building an inclusive society, harnessing natural capital and designing effective policies to effect the transition.
