PAIA Compliance Workshop for Non Profits

Southern Africa Institute of Fundraising (SAIF)

The Southern Africa Institute of Fundraising (SAIF) is the only body representing the fundraising profession in Southern Africa and is a registered nonprofit organisation (NPO). SAIF emphasises adherence to its Code of Ethics, which is in line with the International Statement on Ethical Standards, and is the exclusive provider of the accredited American Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Fundamentals of Fundraising course.

SAIF is offering a PAIA Compliance Workshop for Non Profits.

This workshop is absolutely essential for all RISK, COMPLIANCE and GOVERNANCE officers.

The Promotion of Access to Information Act, No. 2 of 2000 (PAIA) was enacted to give effect to the constitutional right of access to information. In terms of the Constitution and PAIA, all people in South Africa, including non-nationals, can request information from public and private bodies.

Is your NPO compliant?
Did you know that all nonprofit organisations fall within the definition of a 'private body' in terms of the Act and are required to prepare and publish information manuals pursuant to the Act?

Objectives relevant to NPO’s include:

  • To promote transparency, accountability and effective governance of all public and private bodies
  • To establish voluntary and mandatory mechanisms or procedures which give effect to the right of access to information in a speedy, inexpensive and effortless manner

SAIF Gauteng has put together a morning workshop which will be facilitated by the South African Human Rights Commission

  • Role of the SAHRC
  • Compliance with PAIA and mandatory cooperation with the SAHRC
  • Development of an information manual
  • Section 32 Compliance & Reporting Template

The event will be followed by the SAIF Gauteng annual general meeting from 12h00 to 12h30. Minutes, proxy forms and committee nomination forms are attached.
