Introduction
One in 10 patients may be harmed while in hospital. Estimates show that in developed countries as many as 1 in 10 patients is harmed while receiving hospital care. A range of errors and adverse events can cause harm to patients. This course is aimed at aiding healthcare workers to learn from errors. The culture of learning from an adverse event must be inculcated from the culture of reporting adverse events timely without fear of being reprimanded. The course will also cover the process of ensuring reporting and analysis of the systems deficiencies that cause adverse event in the delivery of healthcare services. Course Content:
The Following Topics are covered under this programme   

  • Be introduced to an understanding of why errors occur.
  • Begin to understand which actions can be taken to improve the patient safety.
  • Be able to describe why there should be greater emphasis on patient safety in health establishments
  • Identify local policies and procedures to improve the safety of care to patient
  • Learn and apply the South African Patient Safety Guidelines

Accredited according to the HPCSA’s Medical and Dental Board guidelines for Healthcare Professions for level 1= 10 Ethics and 6 Clinical CPD Points.
