Women in IT Forum

Jo'burg Centre for Software Engineering (JCSE)

The Joburg Centre for Software Engineering (JCSE) is a three-way partnership between government, academia and industry. Based at Wits University, the JCSE is multifaceted with various programmes and facilities positioning it as a focal point of a software development industry for South Africa and the rest of the continent.

Where are the Women? Why are women under-represented in the IT workplace?

It has long been clear that women are not choosing careers in IT. While some roles, such as business analysis, do attract women practitioners - the more technical work in the ICT sector is still mostly done by men. As a first step to addressing this issue, the JCSE in partnership with Quality Life will be hosting a Round Table conversation that aims to find reasons why this is still the situation in 2017.

Panellists:

  • Moderator: Debby Edelstein from Quality Life
  • Ruddy Riba from BBD
  • Arlene Mulder from “We Think Code”
  • Rocky Medalie from FNB
  • Xoliswa Mahlangu from JCSE
