Foundation for Human Rights (FHR)
The Right to Food Summit, 12-13 December 2016, Sunnyside Park Hotel, Parktown
The Foundation for Human Rights (FHR) cordially invites non-governmental organisations and community-based organisations and co-operatives working in the area of food security to the Right to Food Summit, taking place from 12-13 December 2016, at Sunnyside Hotel in Johannesburg.
The summit is aimed at having an extensive engagement with stakeholders on practical ways to addressing the food problems in South Africa. Central, but not limited to the discussion will be a food bank model as a possible way of addressing hunger in some of the most marginalised parts of society.
“...one in four people currently suffers hunger on a regular basis and more than half of the population live in such precarious circumstances that they are at risk of going hungry,” Oxfam, Hidden Hunger Report.
The FHR believes access to food is one of the key challenges facing our country at the moment. The challenges are further exacerbated by the recent droughts and the economic climate among other things.
