Community Development Resource Association
The Community Development Resource Association (CDRA) is a non-governmental African organisational advancing conscious and continuous learning about development processes and art of intervention. The organisation aims to help bring about and support authentic and coherent development practice amongst people, organisations and institutions working towards those forms of social transformation that most benefit the poor and marginalised.
The CDRA is conducting a course on Writing for Development from 20-24 June 2016 in Cape Town and 25-29 July 2016 in Johannesburg.
Writing well demands that we move between the freedom of creative expression and the discipline of structure. Yet we often get stuck somewhere on the continuum and demand of ourselves a perfect product delivered within the limited time we have available for writing our reports, case studies and concept notes. Our self-doubt undermines us, the time evaporates and we rush to the finish line barely making the deadline with doubts about the end result and a promise to do it differently next time. If this is familiar, come and join us and be exposed to a better way.
Whether your work requires you to write proposals, reports, concept notes or case studies this course is for you. The course will meet you where you are – although some previous writing experience is helpful. The course will build your skills and confidence to write documents that are succinct and concise yet engage the reader’s intellect, imagination, heart and will. Beyond learning to write it will also encourage you to write to explore, enquire and learn.
This course will:
- Strengthen your confidence in your writing potential and ability;
- Provide you with observational, thinking and writing frameworks to improve the content and structure of your writing;
- Help to improve your writing style and voice;
- Provide you with ways to give and receive open, honest and transparent feedback on writing products.
The Course Approach
The course is practical and provides ample opportunity to experiment and practice new approaches and skills using several creative and participative exercises. The frameworks we work with are particularly important for developing a disciplined approach to observation, reflection, learning and writing. The course will produce immediate and practical results, as participants will work on writing from their own practice.
