Siyakhula Trust

Siyakhula Trust’s mission is to assist community leaders, community-based organisations, nonprofit organisations (NPOs) and government officials develop skills so that they can efficiently initiate and manage development and job creation projects to the benefit of the communities they serve.

Siyakhula is conducting a course on Community Fundraising from 13-15 July 2015 in Johannesburg.

The purpose of the course is to enable NPOs to effectively conduct fundraising activities and to also capacitate fundraisers to assist NPOs in raising funds.

The course is aimed at NPO managers and employees tasked with the responsibility of fundraising. It is also aimed at officials from fundraising organisation and independent fundraisers.
 
Course Content:

  • What is community fundraising;
    • Basic principles for effective fundraising
    • Understanding fund raising terms
  • Analysing the sector in which your NGO or CBO operates;
  • How to compile an organisation profile;
  • How to compile a community profile;
  • Identifying donors and funding sources;
  • Managing donor information;
    • The importance of establishing a database of possible and existing donors
  • Developing a fundraising strategy;
    • Attracting funding
    • Applying for funding – writing letters of appeal
    • Completing funding applications
    • Fundraising tips
  • Analysing responses to letters of appeal to determine their effectiveness;
  • The importance of writing thank you letters;
  • The importance of keeping contact with your donors;
    • Recognising and honouring donors
  •  Raising money through your own efforts;
    • Organising events
    • Using internet technology to assist you (Facebook, LinkedIn etc)
  • Other ways of fundraising .
