    Malamulele Onward is a non-governmental organisation which provides specialised therapy (physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy) services, equipment and caregiver training to poorly resourced rural areas of South Africa and other African countries where children severely disabled by cerebral palsy have little or no access to rehabilitation therapy and equipment.

    Malamulele Onward seeks to appoint an Outreach Coordinator (physiotherapist or occupational therapist).

    This post is not necessarily based at the Malamulele Onward Therapy Centre Braamfontein, Johannesburg. The successful applicant can be based anywhere in the country. If the applicant is not based in Johannesburg, they need to have a good internet connection and be available to travel to Johannesburg for at least three days per month.

    If you are a team player who is highly motivated and passionate about making a meaningful difference to the lives of children with Cerebral Palsy and their families living in rural areas, Malamulele Onward invites you to apply to join its dedicated and experienced multidisciplinary team as the outreach co-ordinator. This post is for an experienced occupational therapist or physiotherapist who is registered with the HPCSA.

    This is a full-time contract position. Interviews will take place the week of the 16-20 February 2015.
      
    Starting date: As soon as possible.

    Responsibilities:
    • Coordinating the outreach programme;
    • Leading a team on monthly site visits to primary health care facilities and hospitals in rural areas;
    • Writing reports;
    • Training caregivers, therapists and midlevel workers;
    • Assisting with monitoring and evaluation activities;
    • Setting up and administering the Malamulele Onward data management system;
    • Contributing to the planning of the organization’s future programmes and activities;
    • Assisting with fundraising activities.
    The successful applicant will be able to work independently and have a strong interest and commitment to the vision and values of Malamulele Onward and proven skills in the following areas:
    • Working with children with cerebral palsy;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher and Outlook;
    • Ability to work under pressure, multitask, manage time and prioritise with minimum supervision;
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills;
    • Excellent organisational and administrative skills;
    • Excellent writing skills.
    Ideally, candidates should have a minimum of two years experience in working with children with cerebral palsy, preferably in a rural setting. Completion of a five day practical or introductory course in CP will be an advantage and preference will be given to a therapist who has successfully completed an 8 week Bobath/NDT course.
     
    Candidates need to have a valid driver’s licence and will be expected to travel to outreach sites every month for six days at a time.
     
    Salaries are competitive and will be dependent on the applicant’s experience.

    The successful candidate should be an exceptionally successful, energetic and vibrant Chief Operations and Funding Officer who has the unique ability to ensure the smooth overall management of the organisation whilst diversifying the donor base and attracting further funding.     Responsibilities:
    • Overall responsibility for ensuring  the sound and efficient functioning of Malamulele Onwards’ operational infrastructure;
    • Finding solutions for all aspects of operational problems on a day-by-day basis;
    • Managerial oversight of Malamulele Onwards’ operations to ensure that human and financial resources are used effectively to implement the organizational strategy;
    • Ensuring consistency and quality of all services provided by the organisation;
    • Dealing with HR matters;
    • Establish and maintain a professional work ethic and setting the tone for team spirit and interpersonal relationships;
    • Mentor and coach administrative staff;
    • Diversify the donor base through identifying and generating new key funders;
    • Build successful long-term sustainable funding relationships from initiating identifying potential funding sources, proposal writing and funder contact to report writing and maintaining strong long-term donor relationships;
    • Build relationships with relevant district, provincial and national health departments.
    Requirements:
    • Tertiary degree in marketing, business management, or similar;
    • Minimum of seven years experience in operational management, funding, and donor-relationship management;
    • People skills;
    • Proven skills in performance management, financial management, and monitoring and evaluation;
    • An understanding of and the ability to cope with the complexity of running a nonprofit organisation;
    • Leadership and networking skills;
    • High proficiency in drafting proposals and funder reports;
    • Positive and flexible attitude, drive, passion and energy;
    • Ability to travel and have own transport;
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    • Compiling newsletters;
    • Keeping the website updated;
    • Assisting with compiling reports and funding and grant proposals;
    • General administrative tasks including but not limited to ordering office supplies, filing, answering the phone, checking voice messages, responding to e-mail enquiries;
    • Attending and taking minutes of all board meetings;
    • Coordinating volunteers;
    • Providing administrative support for special events such as board meetings, open days and fundraising events.
    Requirements:
    • Diploma/degree in administrative, marketing or communications studies and a minimum of two years experience;
    • Experience in office administration;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
    • Proficiency in basic website administration and social media;
    • Ability to work under pressure, multitask, manage time and prioritise with minimum supervision;
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills;
    • Communication and marketing skills;
    • Fluency in one or more African languages;
    • Experience with a nonprofit organisation;
    • Fundraising and the ability to perform basic tasks in Adobe Photoshop will be an asset.
