South African NGOs have expressed their support and encouragement for the national soccer team, Bafana Bafana, ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

They have also wished the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and other relevant stakeholders a successful hosting of this historical soccer showpiece, which takes place for the first time on the African continent since inception in 1930.

Oxfam Halts Operations in DRC

The British charity, Oxfam International, says it has suspended operations at Mbandaka, a key town in the northwest Democratic Republic of Congo, because of insecurity.

Oxfam’s director in the DR Congo, Roland Van Hauwermeiren, “Because of the insecurity that prevailed at Mbandaka we have suspended our activities until the situation stabilises in the region.”
