Nelson Mandela Day

Youth to Partake in Mandela Day

According to a survey, nine out of ten young people are going to give 67 minutes of their time giving back during the Nelson Mandela Day, which will be commemorated on 18 July 2013.

Eighty-nine percent of the 16 046 respondents in the survey, says that they intend donating 67 minutes of their time to a good cause on former President Nelson Mandela’s birthday.

These figures show South Africa can expect a high level of enthusiasm regarding participation on Mandela Day.

NMF Calls Volunteers on Mandela’s Birthday

The Nelson Mandela Foundation is hoping that volunteers around the world will donate 67 minutes of their time when South Africa's former president turns 95 on 18 July 2013.

Mandela remained hospitalised in critical but stable condition for a recurring lung infection from 8 June 2013.

The foundation's Twitter feed is asking people to join in the volunteer-day initiative. The Twitter feed often shares quotes from the man who spent 27 years in prison during white racist rule in South Africa.

Mandela Day to Honour Spirit of Giving – Clinton

The first-ever United Nations (UN) Nelson Mandela Day next month will honour the spirit of giving that has animated former South African President Nelson Mandela's service to society, as well as dwarf what happened while he was in his prime. This is according to former United States president, Bill Clinton.

Clinton says the gratitude felt for Mandela will only be fully expressed if everyone turns it into service, not just to improve and elevate the lives of others but for the strength of people's common future.
